Tokyo University of the Arts.
Her paintings are constantly evolving. This cannot be categorized as change, or even metamorphosis or transformation, as the paintings by Atsuko Yamashita move forward in the same way that yesterday becomes today. That is because these works depict her fantasy world. As long as she lives, this fantasy expands and moves progressively like a mural, and her paintings also advance accordingly.
The surface, to which paint was applied liberally after being plastered with washi, was grainy, as if the shards of broken stars were scattered over it, and developed to have a sparkling texture. Depending on whose perspective it is, it would not be impossible to compare the act of her depicting her paranoid ideal world to the characteristic tendency for nature to be portrayed in a beautified manner in Japanese paintings.
